(The Best) Recipe for Grilled Pineapple

Have you ever wanted to try a recipe for grilled pineapple? I’ve got a great one for you! This recipe for grilled pineapple is reminiscent of what you would find at a Brazilian restaurant – sweet, flavorful, juicy, with hints of cinnamon and brown sugar. It’s so delicious it will become a regular grill night favorite.

My husband and I lived in Utah when we were first married and there was a great Brazilian steakhouse nearby. We were poor college students so it was a bit of a splurge but it was our favorite date night splurge! They had THE BEST grilled pineapple. My husband and I recently went to Brazilian steakhouse here in Los Angeles for our anniversary and after having that grilled pineapple again I just HAD to learn how to make it!

Why I Love This Recipe for Grilled Pineapple

Pineapple is always delicious – no matter how it is served. Fresh pineapple is one of my favorite fruits (among many). I love serving fresh cut pineapple for any snack or meal of the day. But there is something extra special about grilled pineapple! It’s such a fun side dish or light dessert for those nights you already have the grill fired up.

Not to mention it’s super easy! I like grill nights to be simple. Grill nights are a division of labor in our house – I do the prepping and then I hand it off to my husband to do the grilling. Since I don’t have to worry about cooking the food, I like to get a jump start on cleaning up the kitchen. This recipe for grilled pineapple is one of those dishes that for how tasty it is, doesn’t create a lot of dishes. Which is my kind of recipe! It’s so easy and simple that it cleans up almost instantly so by the time my husband is done grilling it, I’ve got it all cleaned up!

Allergy-friendly Side DIsh

If you have been to my blog before, then you probably know that all my recipes are allergy-friendly: free from wheat, eggs, dairy, peanuts, and cashews. The same is true of this recipe for grilled pineapple. It’s completely allergy-friendly – unless you’re allergic to pineapple!

It can be hard to find side dish recipes that are allergy-friendly! Especially ones that are free from wheat AND dairy! For some reason side dishes and dairy ingredients seem to go hand-in-hand. This grilled pineapple is a great way to provide an allergy-friendly side dish in a simple, tasty way. Providing allergy-friendly dishes is important if you are having guests over for a BBQ. You never know what allergies or food intolerances someone may have.

Other great allergy-friendly grill night options are: Frozen Watermelon Lemonade, Roasted Beets and Carrots, and Cucumber Avocado and Tomato Salad.

Unless I have asked guests beforehand if they have any food allergies (which is a great practice!), then I try to provide at least 1 side dish that is allergy friendly, along with an allergy-friendly main dish and dessert.

Most main dishes at a BBQ would already be allergy-friendly thanks to meat – just check those ingredients in any sauces and marinades! Desserts can be just as tricky as side dishes. Some dessert options can include: Chocolate Chip Cookies and German Chocolate Cake.

What You Need for This Recipe for Grilled Pineapple

Equipment Needed

Apart from measuring spoons and mixing bowls, all you need is a grill, a large knife, and a basting brush. You will baste the pineapple while it grills. Most grilling utensil sets come with a basting brush, or you can pick up a small kitchen one at Walmart or Target.

Ingredients Needed

The ingredients in this recipe are super simple. Here is what you will need for this recipe for grilled pineapple:

  • Pineapple
  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Plant butter

Alternatively, you may use regular old butter instead of the vegan plant butter. I keep all my recipes dairy-free, but if you eat dairy then feel free to go with good old fashioned butter.

That’s all you need! Four simple ingredients.

How to Make This Recipe for Grilled Pineapple

Begin by slicing the pineapple into 8 long sticks. To do this, slice the top and bottom of the pineapple off, followed by the peel. Slice the pineapple into lengthwise, from top to bottom, right through the core. Then, cut each of those pieces in half, and then half again. Carefully cut the core out of each pineapple slice, as if you were cutting the core out of apple slices.

Next, prepare your dry rub by mixing together the brown sugar and the cinnamon. Sprinkle it on each side of the pineapple slices. Next, mix together the basting (plant) butter.

When your grill is fired up, place each pineapple slice on the grill and baste with the cinnamon sugar butter. Continue cooking for 10 to 15 minutes, basting every few minutes. When the pineapple is soft, golden brown, and caramelized it’s all done. Remove from heat and serve.

How to Serve Grilled Pineapple

You’re going to love this grilled pineapple! It’s so tasty and is the perfect compliment to any grill night. You can serve this pineapple as a side dish alongside burgers and hot dogs, grilled chicken, or steak. It’s perfect!

For our last grill night we served this pineapple as a side dish next to grilled hamburgers and steak, vegetable kabobs, and chips and guacamole. It was delicious!

You can even grill this pineapple a little later into the evening and cut in up to serve on top of vanilla ice cream! It would make a perfect, yet simple, dessert for any BBQ!

My husband and I love this grilled pineapple so much! I hope you try it and love it as much as we do! We don’t think any BBQ is complete without it! I would love to know what you think in the comment section below!
