30 Minute Honey Mustard Chicken

Easy Chicken Dinner

I need easy dinner recipes. Who doesn’t? I’ll never turn down an easy dinner recipe that takes 30 minutes from start to finish and produces minimal dishes. This honey mustard chicken meets the criteria! It’s an easy dinner recipe. My favorite kind of recipe. Plus it’s just dang delicious! That’s an important criteria too. This juicy and tender chicken cooks in a sweet honey mustard sauce and then is smothered with additional sauce as it comes out of the oven. Yum.

Honey mustard chicken only requires a few ingredients. Five to be exact. It’s done in 35 minutes (at the most) and in addition, it only creates a small handful of dishes. Almost everyone has the ingredients on hand already and there’s no chopping involved! I told you it was easy! I wasn’t kidding. It will quickly become one of your favorite go-to dinners for those busy weekend nights. It really doesn’t get much simpler than this easy honey mustard chicken. Unless you fix up a good old PB&J (or Sunbutter and J) sandwich. Which is always a quick, kid-pleasing option.

Honey Mustard Sauce

My family loves honey. We eat it in our oatmeal, we make honey and almond butter sandwiches, we use it in muffins in place of sugar. I’ve even caught my 3 year-old pouring himself a cup of honey. We love our honey, okay? I didn’t let him drink a whole cup of honey, don’t worry. Instead I found him drinking maple syrup straight out of the jug a few minutes later. This doesn’t surprise anyone that knows him, I’m sure.

Truthfully, I haven’t been feeling the chicken lately. I mean, chicken has been making up a large part of my diet my entire adult life. Because chicken is typically a main component of the so-sought after easy dinner recipe. Aaandd, I’m feeling pretty “meh” about it. Well actually less than “meh.” Have you ever seen the Seinfeld episode where Kramer says, “This chicken should be ashamed of himself?” Yeah. That’s how I’ve been feeling. I’m been avoiding making anything with chicken, other than Salsa Verde Chicken Tacos, for the last couple of months. I just can’t eat it unless it’s made with something AMAZING. But, I can totally eat chicken when it’s smothered in honey mustard. And then eat a second helping. In other words, it’s really good.

Honey Mustard Sauce

Just look at that sauce. Looks so good, right? Yes please, I’ll take it! It’s so quick and requires hardly any prep work. You can make it in two minutes. The hardest part of making this recipe is finding a whisk. For me anyway. My kids are always walking off with my whisks, measuring spoons, mixing bowls, etc. So you know, if you have to find where your 1 year old stashed something to measure or mix this with it might take you longer than 2 minutes. But otherwise you’re golden.

You can make this honey mustard sauce for pretty much anything, it doesn’t even have to be chicken. You can serve it over steamed carrots, roasted potatoes, baked tofu – you name it! Even broccoli if you have a picky eater that wouldn’t touch anything green if it deep-fried and dipped in chocolate sauce.

How To Make Honey Mustard Chicken

Alright, so how do you make this delicious honey mustard chicken? First, whisk together your mustard, honey, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (optional) in a small bowl. Then pour it over your chicken tenderloins. Bake it for 25 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees. While your chicken is baking you can set your smothering sauce on the stove to simmer. This sauce is made of exactly the same ingredients that you bake the chicken in but since it’s not mixed with the juices of the cooking chicken it stays thick and creamy. After your chicken is done cooking, smother the stove-simmered sauce on top and serve.

While the chicken is cooking in the oven you’ll have plenty of time to wash your few sauce-making dishes AND make a side dish. Give my Roasted Beets and Carrots or Cucumber Avocado Salad recipes a try to make this chicken a complete meal! This honey mustard chicken goes great on top of rice as well.
